Department Overview:

Pediatrics. We are a non-clinical basic research laboratory focused on understanding fungal infections of humans and wildlife, with an interest in vaccine and antifungal drug development.

Schedule:

Flexible to work around classes, but targeting a commitment of 10 hr per week; more hours may be available, especially during academic breaks or summer. Some work time should be in blocks of 3 or more hours.

Qualifications:

•Applicant must be a current or incoming UW student and continuing (at least through Spring 2026).
•Federal Work-Study funding required. (If you don't know what this is, you probably don't have it.)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Classroom and work experience in sterile technique and general laboratory procedures is beneficial, but training will be provided, as necessary, for specific protocols. Willingness to work cooperatively as part of team while also being comfortable with self-directed work is important.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Job duties include preparation of media for tissue culture and microbiology, preparation of laboratory solutions, and general laboratory maintenance, including glassware cleaning and sterilization, processing of microbiological cultures for safe disposal, and weekly testing of laboratory safety equipment.   

Physical Demands:

Light lifting of cardboard boxes of laboratory plastics.
