Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, English, Theater Arts, or other content related field
- 2 years of teaching experience with K-12 students preferred. Student teaching experience will be considered.
- Graduate level coursework, completed or in progress, is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver engaging content to middle school students is preferred.
- Energetic approach to learning
- Strong communication skills and ability to work well with students, administration, and support staff
- Experience meeting the needs of all students
- Respect for individual differences and individuality.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Experience working with middle school students
- Experience teaching content area subject

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Instructor for the UW-Science – Behind the Scenes course for the Precollege Academic Campus Experience. Program dates are July 21-25, 2025. The instructor for this course will be tasked with planning and teaching a one week course (approx. 28 instructional hours) for students in grades 6-8. Instructors can expect to work with a class size of up to 16 middle school students. Course description listed below:

Did you know UW-Madison is one of the leading research institutions in the world? So much innovation is happening right here in our own backyard! In this course we will lead you on many field trips to explore a selection of labs and science departments around campus. We’ll learn what life as a research scientist is like and how their complex discoveries impact everyday life. If you’re looking for an up-close look of what it means to engage with the sciences at the UW campus, this class is for you!


Instructors are responsible for:
- Planning an engaging course with activities and lessons designed to provide high quality and fast-paced learning for advanced middle school students
- Meeting in spring with Badger Precollege administrators to develop curriculum
- Completing all hiring requirements and trainings required by Human Resources at UW Madison
- Participating in staff orientation before the program begins
- Attending virtual instructor check in meetings scheduled throughout the program.
- Completing post program student evaluation materials.
