Department Overview:
The Arboretum is a University of Wisconsin teaching and research facility, which includes 1200 acres of prairies, woodlands, savannas, wetlands, gardens, and Lake Wingra shoreline. We restore and manage native ecosystems, conduct restoration ecology research, and provide many learning opportunities for volunteers and visitors. The Arboretum Outdoor Educators will work with our day camp program, field trips, and family events.

Qualifications:
Either certified in CPR/first aid or be willing to become certified. Must be able to pass a background check for working with vulnerable populations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
Experience and ability working with children, youth, and adults. Dependable and on-time. Ability to follow directions, work independently, as well as work in a team. Must be able to commit to 30 hours/week. Some days and times will be required in the schedule, such as during a camp session, and others are more flexible.
Position Summary/Job Duties:
The UW Arboretum is hiring college students to work during the summer in our outdoor education programs for youth. You will work closely with the Arboretum’s Education Unit staff. Job duties include but are not limited to: Earth Focus Day Camp - Plan activities with camp staff, prepare materials and supplies for each camp session, lead and supervise groups of campers in outdoor education activities. Lead youth groups that schedule summer field trip visits. Assist with planning and delivering Grandparents University, a multi-generational program in partnership with the Alumni Association. Assist with planning and delivering Learning Together family classes, a monthly program for preschool-age children and their adult caregivers. Physical Demands:
Willing to work both indoors and outdoors, in a variety of weather conditions. The Arboretum is located 4 miles south of campus and is not on a bus line. Reliable transportation is required.
