Department Overview:

The College of Engineering Advising Office is an experienced and dedicated team focused on providing advising services and programming for all undergraduate students in the college.

Schedule:

Training Dates (Tentative): May 19th-May 23rd and May 27th-30th

SOAR 2025 dates:
- May 30th-August 15th, Monday-Friday
- Hours vary each week, must be available 8am-12pm M-F
- Remote work options may be available July 7th-11th, July 28th-31st, and August 12th-15th
- No work June 30th-July 4th

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

Minimum: $15.00 Maximum: $15.00

10-15

Qualifications:

- Current degree-seeking College of Engineering undergraduate student
- At least one semester in progress at time of application
- Continuing student status for Summer or Fall 2024 semester
- Available for all training dates and SOAR sessions
- Ability to work in-person at a designated on-campus work location
- Previous student services experience (e.g. tutor, resident assistant) preferred, not required

- Ability to work with a variety of students with different academic interests, skills, abilities, backgrounds, and experiences
- Strong interpersonal communication and listening skills
- Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities
- Willingness to learn, ask questions, and seek information
- Commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment

Position Summary/Job Duties:

SOAR Peer Advisors work independently and collaboratively with College of Engineering advising staff to provide incoming undergraduate engineering students with academic orientation and registration.

- Welcome new students individually, in small groups, and via presentations
- Provide information and answer questions about College of Engineering degree requirements and programs
- Assist students with course selection and use of enrollment tools, e.g. Course Search & Enroll
- Share information about co-curricular and student life at UW-Madison
- Additional daily tasks as needed
