-Applicants will ideally have experience with, and an affinity for, visual arts.
-Visual Arts experience does not need to be at university-level. Individuals who took art classes in high school, who enjoy making arts and crafts on their own, would be great fits. --Most important is a willingness to be hands-on and to learn techniques to best support the art teachers leading each class.

-Self motivated: as a small team everyone is expected to stay organized and motivated so that optimal service can be given to the students being taught and the teachers that work with them.

-Join our Youth Summer Arts Camp as an Art Education Intern! UW Art Education Interns act as hybrid Teaching Assistant/Camp Counselors for 10 weeks of full-time Visual Arts camp programming, plus an additional week of training prior to the start of Camp. Campers range in age from 7-17, with the majority of campers being between ages 7-14.
-Interns must be comfortable working with this full range of student ages. Interns must be open to additional learning about working with different behaviors, developmental disorders, neurodiversity.
-Interns must be present for all agreed-upon dates and hours. Punctuality and reliability are critical.
-Interns must be comfortable working with a range of personalities, as we hire 20 Teaching Artists to lead our diverse summer camp offerings.
-Interns will be assigned 1-2 Teaching Artists to support each week of camp.
-Interns must be comfortable taking initiative, problem-solving, and making decisions in short order. ALL's Summer Campers are a dynamic group of young people with a range of interests and needs. The bulk of an Intern's role goes to supporting the social-emotional and physical wellness of campers, with supporting their artistic growth being an important but lesser priority.
-Interns will support Teaching Artists with classroom management and materials management.
-Interns will have some daily cleaning and classroom organization, as will all other Camp Staff, so as to keep up with our rotating schedule of art topics.
-Interns will be responsible for running the daily hour-long "Lunch Hour Activities" which is a break between camp sessions during which students eat, socialize, and play both inside and outside.
-Interns will report directly to a Camp Coordinator, who is a UW-Madison Student with three years of experience working at ArtLitLab. The ALL Education Director will oversee the Camp Coordinator and all interns.
-ALL Youth Summer Arts Camp is meant to be a time of growth and discovery for every program participant, interns included. We intend to support our Interns by customizing this internship to your strengths, interests, and goals - while still ensuring that all daily requirements are completed. The opportunity to teach some lessons is available for interns for whom that is an interest. Previous interns have progressed to the role of Teaching Artist and now lead their own week-long camps.
