Department Overview:

Each summer, UW-Madison hosts several residential Pre-College academic experiences. The youth camp Student Health Tech is the main point of contact for minors attending camps at UW-Madison over the summer. Health Techs provide 24/7 coverage for first aid and medication administration to children attending camps. Work is preformed under the guidance of registered nursing staff. CampHealth staffs Health Offices across campus supporting the campers, providing first-aid and triage

Schedule:

CampHealth operates 24/7Health Office. Shifts are: Days 7a-3p, PMs 3p-11p and Overnight 11p-7a. Must be able to work all three shifts over the summer season. Weekends are required and you can anticipate working every other weekend.

Anticipate 16-32 hours/week.

Sample Schedule for all three shifts:
Week 1 PM shift
Week 2 Night shift
Week 3 PM shift
Week 4 AM shift
(repeating)

Holidays and weekends are required. Due to camp needs, no time off requests can be granted June 29 through July 5.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

Minimum: $15.00 Maximum: $15.00

Qualifications:

CPR certification with EpiPen training preferred
Must be able to work all three shifts (AMs, PMs and overnight). Must be able to attend department trainings mid-May (required). See Anticipated Work Schedule for more information.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

1- Competent in the use of computers.
2- Ability to communicate effectively with campers and staff
3- Certified in American Red Cross Emergency Responder or equivalent
*preference is given to candidates that have completed or are currently participating in the American Red Cross Emergency Responders Course, certified EMT, certified athletic trainer or equivalent.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Goal A: 70% Delivery of first aid, medication and care under RN and/or MD guidance.
Activity: A1 Administer document daily medications to campers
Activity: A2 Administration/documentation of first aid to camper
Activity: A3 Float to work at various Health Offices as needed
Activity: A4 Communicate mediation compliance, injuries and illness with the RN on duty.

Goal B: 20% Administrative
Activity B1: Maintain all records and complete all reports needed for compliance
Activity B2: Maintain open communication with RNs and Camp Coordinators
Activity B3: Clean and organize Health office (s).

Goal C: 10% Education
Activity C1: Educate campers regarding prevention of sunburn, accidents/injuries and illness
Activity C2: Assist CampHealth staff with other program needs as requested

Physical Demands:

Must be able to walk, run, climb stairs and move about the building emergently and as needed. This is a physical job where the incumbent is required to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time, lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs as needed, and do repetitive tasks.
