The Career Exploration Center is the leading campus resource for UW-Madison undergraduates who are looking to explore major and career options. Our office provides a variety of tools to help students examine their interests, values, strengths, and skills, so they can make informed decisions about their major and career paths. All CEC Office Peers must be able to provide at least 10 hours of availability between 8:15am – 4:30pm, Monday through Friday each week. Each peer can expect to work a minimum of 5 hours per week between 8:15 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. On average, CEC Office Peers work 5-7 hours per week. Training will begin in early April 2025 and last through the end of the spring semester. The position will resume in late August. Applicants must be able to attend the following tentative training dates: -- Week of April 7th (date/time TBD) - Welcome dinner & introduction to the CEC -- Early April through the end of spring semester (specific dates/times to be scheduled upon hire) - Complete at least two “shadow” shifts with current CEC Office Peers for a total of 4-6 hours of shadowing -- August 29th from 12:00-4:00pm -- September 2nd from 9:00-12:00pm Continuing training sessions will occur throughout the semester and will be scheduled at a later date. Applicants must be available to start training in April 2025. Preference will be given to applicants who can attend all of the above mentioned training dates, and can commit to at least two semesters of service in the CEC.

Minimum qualifications: -- Current, degree-seeking UNDERGRADUATE student -- At least one semester at UW-Madison in progress at time of application -- Continuing student status for the Fall 2025 semester

Students eligible for hire will demonstrate an interest in developing: -- Strong interpersonal communication, listening, and customer service skills -- Ability to handle multiple tasks and problem-solve in the moment -- Willingness to learn, ask questions, and seek information -- Interest in interacting with students and supporting career advising staff -- Commitment to creating an environment that supports exploring students -- Ability to self-reflect and grow from feedback
Position Summary/Job Duties:
Position duties: -- Complete administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, answering phones, tracking office data, and other projects as assigned -- Provide excellent customer service to all guests who enter the CEC space, including students arriving for appointments or using the open study space, staff utilizing the space for workshops/presentations, etc. -- Assist students in navigating and using CEC resources such as career assessments, events, worksheets, etc. -- Participate in ongoing trainings and professional development -- Occasionally represent the CEC at outreach and programming events, which may include hosting resource tables and participating in CEC promotional events
