Department Overview:

The Undergraduate Learning Center (ULC) provides tutoring and academic support programs for undergraduates enrolled in various science and engineering coursework. Our programs focus on supporting challenging courses that students take to progress in their engineering department.

Schedule is flexible around class time and other commitments.

Qualifications:

1) Current UW-Madison undergraduate students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
2) Familiarity with object-oriented programming (OOP), either through Java or other programming languages.
3) Have some project experiences outside of classes.
4) A strong commitment to teamwork.
5) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
6) Ability and desire to learn new programming languages and frameworks. Be able to read a substantial amount of code and understand how it works.
7) Access to necessary equipment/technology to perform job duties (personal computer/laptop, wifi-internet access)

Preferred Qualifications
1) Experience with front-end web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React).
2) Experience with back-end/server-side web development (PHP, SQL).
3) Experience with version control systems (Git).
4) Multiple semester commitment.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The ULC is looking for programmers who are seeking to gain real world programming experience. You will be part of a team working to maintain and add features to dynamic and interactive web applications that will be used to enhance the academic support services available to undergraduate students in the College of Engineering.

Once hired, new programmers are expected to participate in required orientation and training sessions. All programmers attend and contribute to weekly programmer meetings. The current project is to maintain, improve, and add new features to a web application used to schedule one-on-one tutoring appointments.
