Department Overview:
Our mission at the Office of Student Transition & Family Engagement (STFE) is to understand and students' first year at UW-Madison. We are the campus leader and primary resource on the subject of student transition to the campus community. STFE supports students in self-reflection and active learning inside and outside of the classroom as they create the foundation for their Wisconsin Experience. We facilitate this process through a long-term inclusive strategy of intentional programming, on-going services, communication, and collaboration with faculty and staff.

Schedule:
Fellows should expect to spend 5-7 hours per week preparing for and facilitating the course during the fall semester. The position runs primarily from September to December 2024, with 2 hours of training in the spring semester and optional professional development programs offered throughout the summer. Fellows are expected to attend and participate in the following: Important Dates Spring training (attend 1) -Thursday afternoon, Apr 18, 2024 -Friday morning, April 19, 2024 Fall all-staff training -Thursday, August 29, 8:30am-4:00pm, Pyle Center Room 325/326 New Student Chancellor’s Convocation -Date, time, & location -Weekly meetings in the fall semester with your Instructor: TBD by each teaching team -Weekly meetings with Fellows: Dates and times TBD -Monthly Large Group Fellow meetings -Summer Workshops (optional, throughout summer): June-August, specific dates and times TBD Please note we encourage and want students to take advantage of a variety of activities and opportunities over the summer; therefore, there is no work commitment from May-August 2024.

Qualifications:
Undergraduate students interested in teaching and supporting first-year students are encouraged to apply to be a Wisconsin Experience Seminar Fellow. The minimum requirements to teach a Wisconsin Experience Seminar are: -Undergraduate student -Minimum 2.75 GPA at the start of the Fall 2023 term. NOTE: If your current GPA is below a 2.75, please include a statement of explanation in your application in the same document as your cover letter.

Serving as a Fellow has many potential benefits, which include, but are not limited to: -Enhancing group facilitation skills and teaching techniques -Developing positive relationships with new students over the course of the semester and beyond -Being part of a team of Fellows and getting to know your peers -Receiving mentorship from your Instructor -Refining skills in areas such as public speaking, collaboration, organization, giving and receiving feedback, and interpersonal communication -Facilitating classroom discussions on important topics relevant to new students
Position Summary/Job Duties:
Weekly duties will include the following: -Preparing/reviewing lesson plans and co-facilitating class each week with your Instructor -Reviewing and providing feedback on student work in a timely manner -Holding a weekly office hour to assist students and/or complete other Fellow job tasks -Actively supporting first-year students (may include in-person and electronic communication with students) -Attending meetings with your Instructor and/or other Fellows -Attending weekly Fellow small group meetings
