Department Overview:

The Mercile J. Lee Scholars Program (MJLSP) serves over 500 high-achieving undergraduate students. With a philosophy of “Excellence in Scholarship, Leadership and Service”, the program is at the forefront of providing intensive and consistent levels of direct support to talented students who as a cohort are admitted to UW–Madison. Since its creation in the early 1980s (originally named Chancellor’s and Power-Knapp scholarship), the MJLSP has established itself as the premier scholarship program on campus. Scholars benefit from individualized advising, a supportive peer network, leadership development opportunities, mentorship, alumni connections, and more. In addition to the structured support provided by the programs, scholars also receive a full tuition financial award.

To be arranged with your assigned supervisor. Would be in-person work that aligned with your supervisors hours.

Qualifications:

Must be enrolled as a UW-Madison undergraduate student who is current AND NOT a Mercile J. Lee Scholar.

Employment will require UW-Madison to verify your identity and employment eligibility. The employee must physically present original, unexpired documents (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents) as evidence of identity and employment authorization.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Data entry experience, analyzing data and summarizing information
- Editing and writing skills for communications aligning with program and divisional mission
- Experience with Canvas (editing, widget functions, updating main pages, user experience, etc)
- Small- and large-scale event planning, calendaring and getting program materials together
- Experience in summarizing information, organizing research and presenting findings
- Timely communications and time management skills
- Community and donor relations (communication, creating informative handouts, writing, personalization, etc)

Position Summary/Job Duties:

- Coordinating events, including logistics, content preparation and more (graduation, orientation, etc)
- Assist with auditing budget spreadsheets for discrepancies (via Excel)
- Updating program calendars and other sources of information for current scholars
- Researching high schools, conferences, and areas of interest to promote the MJLS program
- Independent projects focused on developing identified short and long-term goals that aid in the success of the MJLSP
- Send correspondence to program donors and keep record of those correspondences (via Word)
- Assist with data entry and tracking scholar participation in required events (via Excel and Top Hat)
- Work at the reception desk greeting Scholars and other visitors to our office (customer service and communications)
- Other duties as assigned
