Department Overview:

 The McNair Scholars Program is a federally funded TRIO program designed to increase graduate school enrollment for first-generation college students from low-income backgrounds and students from underrepresented groups. The program provides comprehensive support services, including funded research opportunities, graduate school preparation, mentorship, and cultural programming. Our office also houses two supplementary programs to help undergraduate students explore options for pursuing advanced degrees (The Challenger Series) and support non-McNair DDEEA Scholars applying to graduate programs (The BADGER Series).

We seek a DDEEA Intern to work closely with program staff to assist with day-to-day operations, contribute to the development of Social media, event, and programming materials, and assist with the up-keep of current scholar and alumni records. This position will report to the McNair Director to ensure the successful implementation of program activities.

 To be arranged with your assigned supervisor. Would be in-person work that aligned with your supervisor's hours.

Qualifications:

 MUST be enrolled as a UW-Madison undergraduate student

Employment will require UW-Madison to verify your identity and employment eligibility. The employee must physically present original, unexpired documents (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents) as evidence of identity and employment authorization.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Communication skills, experience with creating promotional materials, experience with Canva and social media applications

Position Summary/Job Duties:

- Update and distribute program bulletin (Canvas; e.g., research conferences, graduate visitation, funding opportunities, campus and scholarly resources, scholarships, etc.)
- Produce a bi-/annual newsletter highlighting the program and its scholars' achievements and involvement.
- Create promotional materials (postcards, social media campaigns, flyers, graduation and other event programming, etc.) for McNair, Challenger Series, and BADGER Series programs.
- Manage social media pages (Instagram, LinkedIn) for the McNair Scholars Program.
- Restock and office materials and upkeep the space, as needed. (e.g., printing, stocking supplies, sanitizing surfaces, etc.)
- Create and analyze data reports from surveys on current and former scholar activities.
- Ability and willingness to work with Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Canvas (administrative role), Canva, Qualtrics, WordPress, and social media channels (Instagram & LinkedIn)

Physical Demands:

The McNair office is located on the 4th floor of Bascom Hall which has no elevator access. Applicants are expected to work in-person in the McNair office, willing to brainstorm solutions.
