Department Overview:

The School of Education Career Center is a student-centered team who works with graduate and undergraduate students in majors spanning the arts, education, and health. Aiming to equip all School of Education students with the skills to successfully launch and exceed their career aspirations, we advise students on choosing majors, finding jobs and internships, and apply to graduate school.

Schedule:

Weekly schedules occur during Career Center office hours (Mondays - Fridays between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm) with occasional opportunities for evening and weekend work supporting career programs or events.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

Minimum: $17.00/ hour Maximum: $17.00/hour

Qualifications:

-School of Education student who can make a 10-12 hour a week commitment for the 2025-2026 academic year with a chance to renew the following academic year.
-Able to commit to a regular weekly schedule with availability within office hours (8:30 am - 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday), with some off hours (nights, weekends) for events as available.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Applicants are not expected to be career experts; we teach our staff everything they need to know. We are seeking School of Education students who can demonstrate:

-Strong ability to communicate with diverse audiences professionally (verbal and written)
-Ability to work professionally and effectively with individuals from various backgrounds
-Active listening and self-reflection skills
-Proven ability to be flexible, punctual, and have reliable attendance
-Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and make decisions independently, with strong attention to detail
-Experience utilizing career services or resources is preferred but not required

Position Summary/Job Duties:

-Review resumes and cover letters of undergraduate School of Education students (virtually and in-person) and provide respectful and helpful suggestions for improvement
-Manage projects in support of Career Center operations, including event staffing, communications/marketing, data collection, or post-event evaluation (e.g., working during a career fair or creating promotional materials)
-Provide one-on-one assistance to students on career-related topics, including resume and cover letter writing, job/internship searching, and interviewing skills.
-Engage in various on-the-job professional development offerings, such as workshops and mentoring, to develop important professional skills
-Share ideas and feedback to improve Career Center services
-Create and deliver short presentations to classes and organizations to educate students about Career Center services and promote events
-Other duties as assigned
