Schedule:

Tuesdays & Thursdays: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM (In-person at the UW Health Urology Clinic, University Hospital and Clinics, Madison, WI)
Up to 10 hours per week (may include some remote work for tasks like data analysis, writing, and video creation, as approved by the supervisor)

Qualifications:

Current undergraduate or graduate student in nutrition, health sciences, biology, public health, or a related field
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for patient interaction
Experience or coursework in data collection, analysis, and visualization preferred
Ability to write clearly and concisely for abstracts, manuscripts, and patient education materials
Interest in clinical research, nutrition, and patient education
Experience with video creation or willingness to learn
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently
Availability for in-person work on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM at the UW Health Urology Clinic, University Hospital and Clinics in Madison, WI

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Basic knowledge of nutrition, public health, clinical research, or healthcare
Experience with data collection, survey administration, and patient education
Strong interpersonal communication for patient interaction
Proficiency in writing research abstracts, manuscripts, and educational materials
Skills in data organization, analysis, and visualization
Basic video creation and editing (or willingness to learn)
Strong time management, attention to detail, and ability to work independently
Ability to collaborate with clinical and research teams
Adaptability to new tasks and learning opportunities

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Position Summary:
The Clinical Research Assistant will support a patient-centered research project at the UW Health Urology Clinic, University Hospital and Clinics in Madison, WI, under the direction of Dr. Kristina Penniston. This role involves direct patient interaction, survey dissemination, data collection and analysis, educational material development, and research writing. The student will also contribute to creating short educational videos for patients and registered dietitians.

Job Duties:

Distribute surveys in-person, by mail, and electronically
Collect, analyze, and visualize patient data
Develop patient education materials based on research findings
Evaluate patient responses and feedback for program improvement
Write an abstract and/or manuscript for potential presentation
Create and produce two short educational videos (one for patients, one for registered dietitians)
Collaborate with clinical staff and researchers to ensure smooth project execution
Maintain organized records and adhere to research protocols

Physical Demands:

Ability to sit, stand, and move within a clinical setting for extended periods
Frequent interaction with patients and clinical staff in-person
Occasional lifting or carrying of study materials (e.g., surveys, educational materials)
Prolonged screen time for data analysis, writing, and video creation
Ability to commute to UW Health Urology Clinic, University Hospital and Clinics in Madison, WI, for in-person work on Tuesdays and Thursdays (12:00 PM – 5:00 PM)
