Department Overview:
The Department of Plant Pathology at UW-Madison was founded in 1910 to meet the needs of growers and combat crop failures. The Organic Agriculture Research and Extension program is housed in the Department of Plant Pathology, but broadly addresses the agroecological management of grain, forage, and vegetable crops.

Position Summary/Job Duties:
The Organic Agriculture Research and Extension Program in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences is seeking motivated, hard-working students to work as summer field research assistants throughout the summer of 2025. Work will be primarily in the field at the Arlington Agricultural Research Stations, with some lab work on campus and some travel to farm sites. Primary responsibilities include: to assist with field trials for organic reduced till grain production and cover crop systems and indigenous/Tribal cropping systems; to participate in data collection and management; and to assist with outreach events with farmers and Tribal producers. This position provides a range of topics and experiences related to organic agriculture, including soil health, agroecology, cover crops, and farmer engagement. Transportation is not required, although ability to obtain UW drivers authorization is necessary.
Physical Demands:
Ability to work all day outdoors, in heat and sun.
