Department Overview:
The Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory is a top-ranked, AAVLD accredited laboratory. WVDL is conveniently located directly behind the School of Veterinary Medicine on the UW campus and this position is within the Pathology Sciences section of the lab.

Schedule:
We are looking to fill a few positions starting this spring/summer. The hours are flexible within business hours (7:45am-4:30pm M-F) and must average below 30 hours a week over the entire summer. Preference for students who can continue some part-time hours into the next school year (typically less than 10hrs/week, but flexible). Shared weekend duties are typically one weekend every month or two and consist of a few hours Saturday and a couple of hours on Sunday, as needed.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
We are able to train the selected student(s) for this position, however, our laboratory provides a unique learning opportunity for those studying veterinary medicine or a related science.
Position Summary/Job Duties:
Job tasks include: streaking samples, freezing bacterial isolates, checking-in supplies, equipment tasks, etc. Along with the routine lab tasks, you will also have the opportunity to help our microbiologists setup daily submissions consisting of large animal, small animal, and exotic animal specimens. Graduate students will setup pathology cases for culture and students who have taken parasitology will be trained in that testing. Our bacteriology student group usually consists of four to eight students. WVDL is conveniently located directly behind the School of Veterinary Medicine on the UW campus.
Physical Demands:
The ability to work successfully within a laboratory environment. Tasks will require the ability to sit, stand and lift.
