Department Overview:

Waisman Biomanufacturing (WB) operates as a non-profit organization within the Waisman Center, at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, following a business model that includes multiple cross-functional teams (business, manufacturing, operations/facilities, quality assurance and quality control) to support contract-based clients. WB specifically focuses on the production of drug therapies for early stage human clinical trials.

Schedule:

At least one four-hour block of availability per week within regular business hours is preferred. Regular business hours for Waisman Biomanufacturing are Monday-Friday, 8AM-5PM; evening and weekend hours are NOT available.

Qualifications:

This training would be beneficial for a student who has an interest in a career in the biopharmaceutical/biotechnology industry and would like to have experience in a GMP-compliant manufacturing facility.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Must be reliable, committed, organized, and able to perform the required gowning and light physical duties that this job entails. An interest in microbiology is a plus.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

This position requires following the FDA's current Good Manufacturing Practice guidelines for cleanroom gowning and good documentation practices. Training will be provided in these areas.

The Quality Control department is seeking a student whose primary duties would include the following:

70% of the time will be spent performing environmental monitoring of clean rooms for viable and non-viable particulate contamination. This will also include entering data from environmental monitoring into tracking spreadsheets and reading agar plates for microbial contamination.

15% of the time will be spent on general lab housekeeping such as washing glassware, stocking, disposing of cell agar plates, etc.

15% of the time will be used for other related tasks.
