Department Overview:
The Applied Population Laboratory (APL) is an interdisciplinary research unit within the Department of Community and Environmental Sociology at UW–Madison. It specializes in applied demography, health geography, spatial analysis, and community development, offering data-informed insights and tools to support public policy, planning, and education.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
Necessary: Ability to design and create wireframes. Strong communication skills for client interaction and team collaboration. Good to Have: Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS. Graphic design skills and familiarity with Adobe Illustrator. Understanding of accessible design principles and practices. Bonus Skills Programming experience, especially in JavaScript. GIS knowledge or experience. Familiarity with ArcGIS StoryMaps.
Position Summary/Job Duties:
Primary Responsibilities: UI/UX Design Meet with clients (alongside the web developer and project manager) to gather requirements for new websites or redesigns. Propose front-end design concepts tailored to client and user needs. Suggest fonts, color schemes, and layout options. Produce wireframes using tools of your choice. Conduct user testing with support from the web developer to evaluate and refine designs. Secondary Responsibilities: Social Media & Marketting Assist in creating and posting content for platforms such as Mailchimp and BlueSky.
