About the Office of Access, Inclusion, and Compliance (OAIC)
The Office of Access, Inclusion, and Compliance (OAIC) supports the Division of Extension’s strategic commitment to inclusive excellence by advancing equitable systems, strengthening relationships, and fostering belonging across the organization. OAIC partners with educators, staff, and leadership to ensure that Extension’s programs, policies, and culture reflect principles of equity, access, and accountability.
The OAIC team provides consultation, training, and tools to help the Division build inclusive practices, track progress, and engage diverse communities throughout Wisconsin. |

Employment will require a criminal background check.
Student must be enrolled for credit at an educational institution. Student will need to show proof of enrollment before starting.
Required Experience
• Current enrollment as a UW–Madison undergraduate or graduate student in communications, information technology, journalism, digital media, graphic design, or a related field. • Experience with digital communication or IT support projects (academic, volunteer, or professional).
Preferred Experience
• Experience working or volunteering in multicultural, community-based, or educational environments. • Experience supporting organizational communications, accessibility, or DEI initiatives. • Prior student employment or internship experience in higher education, nonprofits, or public service. |
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Foundational understanding of inclusive excellence principles. • Strong written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences and platforms. • Basic familiarity with website management systems (WordPress, Drupal, or similar). • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite or Google Workspace. • Organizational and time management skills with attention to detail. • Ability to work respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds. • Capacity to learn new digital tools quickly and work both independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Knowledge of equitable communication and inclusive engagement practices. • Experience with content creation tools (Canva, Adobe Express, or similar). • Familiarity with accessibility guidelines (WCAG, ADA Section 508). • Experience managing or analyzing social media engagement. • Skills in data visualization, video editing, or multimedia storytelling. • Basic HTML/CSS knowledge or experience supporting website content updates.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Position Overview
The OAIC IT & Communications Intern will report to the OAIC director and play a key role in supporting digital accessibility, inclusive communications, and technology-based engagement strategies that advance Extension’s commitment to access and equity.
This position offers a unique opportunity to learn at the intersection of communications, technology, and inclusive excellence within a statewide public service organization.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist with maintaining OAIC’s internal and external digital communication platforms (website, intranet, newsletters, etc.). • Create accessible and visually engaging digital content using inclusive design principles. • Support updates to OAIC’s website and resource library in WordPress or Drupal. • Help develop visualizations, infographics, or data dashboards to communicate program and organizational impact. • Conduct accessibility checks (e.g., WCAG compliance) for OAIC web and communication materials. • Contribute to social media, storytelling, and multimedia projects that highlight OAIC initiatives. • Collaborate with OAIC staff on internal communications strategies that build trust, connection, and belonging.
