Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, or other content related field - 2 years of teaching experience with K-12 students preferred. Student teaching experience will be considered. - Graduate level coursework, completed or in progress, is preferred. - Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver engaging content to middle school students is preferred. - Energetic approach to learning - Strong communication skills and ability to work well with students, administration, and support staff - Experience meeting the needs of all students - Respect for individual differences and individuality.

Position Summary/Job Duties:
Instructor for the STEP Law 1 & 2 courses for the Badger Precollege STEP Program. Dates run June 13-26, 2026. The instructor for this course will be tasked with planning and teaching two one-week courses for students in grades 6-8. Instructors can expect to work with a class size of up to 16 students. Course description listed below: The STEP Law course is an introduction to the law and the legal system in contemporary American society. In this course, the case study method is used to analyze individual rights as guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and as interpreted by the courts. It also examines the two major branches of the law — criminal law and civil law. Students will gain an understanding of the fundamentals of law but even more importantly they will enhance critical thinking and communication skills through group discussions, games, courtroom simulations and hands-on projects. Field trips and guest speakers will introduce students to real-world experience. Teamwork, critical thinking, communication skills and leadership are key skills learned in the course. Instructors are responsible for: ● Planning an engaging course with activities and lessons designed to provide high quality and fast-paced learning for advanced middle school students. ● Meeting in spring with Badger Precollege administrators to develop curriculum ● Completing all hiring requirements and trainings required by Human Resources at UW Madison ● Participating in staff orientation before the program begins ● Attending virtual instructor check in meetings scheduled throughout the program. ● Completing post program student evaluation materials. Physical Demands:
Instructors will lead students on field trips throughout the UW campus. This can involve a substantial amount of movement at times.
