Schedule:

Applicants need to have open blocks of time during which they are available to teach. Chemistry classes meet during the spring term from January 20 through May 11. Mandatory TA training occurs the week of January 12. Organic Chemistry Laboratory sections (CHEM 344), Organic Chemistry I (CHEM 343), and Organic Chemistry II (CHEM 345) meet in-person. See Course Search & Enroll for specific meeting times. Exact section assignments are not finalized until about a week before the start of classes.

Minimum: $9,420

1-4 positions.

Qualifications:

Undergraduate students majoring in chemistry, biochemistry, or chemical engineering are eligible.
Applicants must have a strong chemistry background, with completion of general and organic chemistry. Additional advanced courses are a plus.
A minimum overall GPA of 3.00 is required. An overall GPA of 3.30 or higher is strongly preferred.
A Chemistry GPA of 3.30 or better is strongly preferred.
Fourth year students are preferred. Third year students with an especially strong chemistry background will be considered.
Students for whom English is a second language may be required to take the SPEAK test.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

The successful candidate will have subject matter expertise, motivation to educate students, excellent communication and time management skills, be able to work with students of diverse backgrounds, be a team player, and be dependable, professional, and willing to learn.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The appointment level for UA-TA positions in Analytical or Organic Chemistry is 45%, or roughly 18 hours per week. For CHEM 344 Organic Laboratory, UA-TAs are responsible for teaching one lab section of ~18 students. For CHEM 343 and 345, UA-TAs are responsible for teaching two discussion sections with ~30 students per section and attending whole class meetings. Other UA-TA responsibilities for all courses include attending staff meetings, holding office hours, proctoring exams, and grading.

Required training begins Monday, January 12 and continues through Friday, January 16, 2026. If you cannot attend in-person training, you should not apply.
