Department Overview:
The Communication Arts Department offers a variety of courses focusing on the principal media and modes of human communication. Our goal is to help students deepen their appreciation of the communication process and increase their communication skills. Whether a course deals with film, electronic media, rhetoric, or interpersonal communication, it is designed to encourage students to enhance and develop their own capacities for critical appraisal, reflection, and expression, and to expand their capacities for participation in the communication-driven social and civic life of the twenty-first century.

Qualifications:
• High school diploma • Currently enrolled at UW-Madison as an undergraduate • Expected graduation date May 2027 or later is preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
• Ability to learn new concepts quickly • Attention to detail • Experience in customer service preferred • Basic knowledge of audio and video equipment and concepts is appreciated, not required • Experience with video editing software is appreciated, not required
Position Summary/Job Duties:
• Staff the front desk of the Instructional Media Center (IMC) • Facilitate equipment circulation for video production classes (cameras, microphones, lighting, etc.) • Facilitate equipment circulation for instructors in courses (laptops, projectors, recorders, etc.) • Maintain media library (Blu-rays, DVDs) • Maintain IMC knowledge base • Digitize legacy media • Production equipment maintenance (updating camera software, cleaning lenses, etc.) • Routine facilities cleaning
Physical Demands:
• Ability to lift 35 pounds • Willingness to do some minor physical labor (moving furniture, painting film sets, etc.)
