Department Overview:

The Division of Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M) is a full-spectrum service organization that builds, maintains, and operates the physical environment of the UW-Madison campus in support of the university's education, research, and outreach activities.

- Required: Enrolled in coursework seeking an Interior Architecture or related Bachelor's degree
- Preferred: Students seeking internship credit

- Ability to work independently

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The Interior Architecture & Design Student Interns will collaborate closely with the interior design teams within Campus Planning & Design and Physical Plant Campus Renovation Services on a wide range of project types that could include workplace, academic, research, hospitality, and athletic environments.

Tasks will vary depending on active projects, and could include: assisting in the selection of furniture; creating test fits, space planning or feasibility studies using AutoCAD or Revit; accepting furniture deliveries and supervising furniture installations; estimating; maintaining finishes library and researching sustainable qualities of finishes and developing standards for recordkeeping. Tasks will also include participating in a variety of project meetings with a variety of campus personnel. These meetings include: user meetings, design reviews, construction meetings and site visits. An understanding of FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment) planning, procurement, fabrication and installation will be gained. In addition, interns will spend time with other units within FP&M to gain a working knowledge of how each unit contributes and collaborates to ensure the success of a facilities project. Interns will have the opportunity to work with an NCIDQ-certified designer to earn experience hours toward NCIDQ exam eligibility.
