Department Overview:

The Multicultural Student Center (MSC), located in the Red Gym, provides support, advocacy, and co-curricular experiences that center, affirm, and celebrate the varied and intersectional experiences of all UW students. Our spaces, programs and services are designed to cultivate a sense of belonging and community while strengthening all students’ capacity to learn, lead and thrive.

Schedule:

Weekly 1:1s (1 hour)
Weekly Student Organization Support Meetings (1 hour)
Bi-Weekly Grant Hearings (2.5 hours)
Bi-Weekly All-Intern Meetings (1.5 hours)
Administrative Tasks (4 hours)
Other Duties as Assigned
This intern will work 10 hours a week, which may include scheduled time in the MSC.

Qualifications:

2.0 Cumulative G.P.A. Required for Hire
Must be an undergraduate
Written/verbal/electronic communications skills
Student organization leadership experience
Highly organized and attentive to detail
Meeting facilitation experience
Excellent customer service skills

Preferred Qualifications:
Relevant field of study; relevant fields include math, business, economics, or nonprofit management (but not limited to only these areas)
Previous experience as a member of the MSC Grant Council
Be available for grant meetings biweekly in the evenings (flexible)
Be available for weekly 1:1s with SOS coordinator (preferably Mondays)
Be available for weekly Student Organization Support meetings

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Excellent written/verbal communications skills
Ability to lead and work in teams
Ability to work independently under strict deadlines
Experience working with marketing materials and strategy
Experience working with policies
Experience with budgeting and financial processes

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Specific Internship Responsibilities Include:
Processing grant and council applications
Oversee and guide a council of 5 members
Meeting with student organizations needing assistance with the MSC Grant process
Organize and Facilitate 6-7 MSC Grant Council Hearings per semester
Create trainings for Council members to better facilitate grant allocations
Receive contracts, invoices & other financial documents
Work with the communications team to create marketing materials and plan to promote grant applications and deadlines

General MSC Student Intern Responsibilities include:
As part of the SOS team, work with the SOS Coordinator on signature MSC events such as MCOR, the Meet Up, and SAGs
Work on special projects as assigned by supervisor

Please note the MSC Assistant Director for Belonging Programs serves as the hiring manager for the entire internship program.
