Department Overview:

The Gender and Sexuality Campus Center (GSCC) provides education, outreach, advocacy, and resources for UW-Madison student communities and their allies to improve campus climate and their daily intersectional experiences. The GSCC Community Engagement Interns work closely with professional staff to develop programs and resources that focus on community building, leadership, career readiness, intercultural education, and dialogue. The internships are for the 2026-2027 academic year. The expected paid time for related work is between 5-10 hours a week, depending on programming needs.

- Excellent written/verbal/electronic communications skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Involved in a student organization or other leadership experience
- Highly organized and creative
- Familiarity with social media and graphic design
- Able to work independently with strict deadlines for programs/events
- Enrolled at UW-Madison as a student in good academic standing

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Specific Internship Responsibilities Include:

- Attend and actively participate at weekly staff meetings, appropriate committee meetings, staff trainings, and one-on-one meetings as determined by supervisor
- Hold regular office hours each week, during which you work on programming, events, and other tasks given to you by your supervisor.
- Actively contribute to the inclusive environment of the centers, including through digital engagement
- Regularly plan and execute events with other team members
- Help develop inclusive and accessible programming content that reflects the needs and interests of diverse communities
- Collect attendance data, feedback, and other metrics to help assess program effectiveness and inform future planning
- Contribute to the creation of event materials such as flyers, agendas, presentations, and follow-up communications
- Assist with logistical planning for events, including room reservations, technology needs, materials preparation, and day-of support

Physical Demands:

The role involves light physical activity, with the majority of tasks performed in a seated or office environment.
