Department Overview:

Pre-Professional Advising at UW-Madison includes the Center for Pre-Health Advising (CPHA) and the Center for Pre-Law Advising (CPLA). The Centers serve undergraduates and alumni from all UW-Madison schools and colleges who are interested in pursuing graduate-level health professions programs or law school. The units are located in the William S. Middleton Building on campus. Pre-Professional Advising is committed to supporting efforts to increase access to careers in healthcare and law.

Schedule:

The intern will work approximately 8-12 hours per week during the semester and through at least summer 2026. General hours will be Monday-Friday between 8:30am-5pm, with periodic pre-planned evening events and a small number of weekend hours (e.g. attendance at campus resource fairs). Preference will be given to students who have longer availability of hours to work at one time (e.g. 10am-3pm CST, etc). Interest in working beyond summer 2026 is preferred, pending satisfactory performance and budgets. Work Study welcome but not required.

- Current UW-Madison student
- Detail-oriented, with the ability to self-start and proactively clarify expectations as needed
- Comfortable communicating with a diverse range of staff, fellow student interns, and advisees engaging with the office
- Enjoy working independently and as part of a team

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Pre-Professional Advising (PPA) - encompassing the Center for Pre-Health Advising (CPHA) and the Center for Pre-Law Advising (CPLA) - is looking for a student who is a detail-oriented self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills and an interest in supporting advising efforts on campus! The primary work of the Student Advising Operations Intern will be related to advising appointment scheduling and operations, including other administrative tasks such as creating resources, answering phone calls, greeting visitors, etc. Interns also assist with PPA outreach activities.

Reporting to PPA Operations Coordinator, the Advising Operations Intern will:
- Work alongside other CPLA and CPHA student and professional staff members to create a welcoming space - serve as a first point of contact for students, staff, and community visitors; respond to email and phone inquiries, refer questions to professional staff as appropriate
- Take a lead in scheduling and coordinating advisee appointments
- Ensure consistent and effective scheduling across both Centers, serving as primary contact for alumni scheduling
- Assist all staff with projects on an as-needed basis, such as program logistics, filing, and outreach communication
- Represent the offices at on-campus events, such as resource fairs and classroom presentations
