Department Overview:

The Office of Risk Management, within the Division of Business Services, has responsibility for assisting campus in preserving the human and physical assets of the university. This involves identifying, evaluating and controlling loss exposures to minimize the adverse effects of unpredictable events impacting the University. In addition to assisting departments in their recovery efforts, the Office of Risk Management provides a variety of risk management services to campus, including driver authorization program oversight, certificate of insurance program administration, automobile, liability, property and other claims handling services. In partnership with Divisional Human Resources Representatives, the Office of Risk Management also coordinates Worker’s Compensation claims and assists employees who have sustained work-related injury or illness.

Minimum: 10 Maximum: 30

Schedule:

Summer hours up to 30 hours per week with minimum 10-12 hours per week during semesters, all with flexible scheduling. Flexible scheduling to be determined between student employee and supervisor, working with the student employee to accommodate their semester course schedules.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

Minimum: $14.00 Maximum: $20.00

Qualifications:

·       Experience or interest in risk management∙∙
·       Actuarial Science, Risk Management & Insurance majors preferred
·       Must be an enrolled undergraduate or graduate student (in Fall 2026)
·       Must have ability to work independently and effectively under general supervision, in both an office setting and remote work environment
·       Must have ability to easily navigate between multiple work assignments
·       A criminal background check will be conducted prior to hiring

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Ability to work during summer and winter breaks
• Strong organizational skills, and attention to detail and accuracy
·   Ability to problem solve
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
·   Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with campus and UW System personnel
·   Proficiency in MS Word and Excel, and Adobe Acrobat
·   Ability to utilize database applications with attention to detail and accuracy
·   Ability to work remotely (restricted to within the U.S.)

Position Summary/Job Duties:

• Assist in the driver authorization process for campus by obtaining Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) from the WI Department of Transportation (DOT) PARS website for Wisconsin drivers and review MVRs for compliance with UW-Madison’s driver authorization eligibility and criteria.
• Provide administrative support on Automobile and General Liability Incidents and Claims.
• Develop, create, and manage reporting from Enterprise Fleet Management System (DOA driver authorization system).
·    Assist with creating or maintaining Driver Authorization work guides and procedure documents.
·    Become familiar with UW-Madison, UW System and Bureau of State Risk Management policies related to driver authorizations and the State’s Self-Funded Liability program (SSLP).
• Provide administrative support on Automobile and General Liability Incidents and Claims.
·   Provide administrative support on Special Projects as assigned.
·   Other responsibilities may expand to managing assigned shared risk management mailboxes, evaluating Special Events for insurance requirements, updating databases, managing electronic documents on shared computer drive folders, processing mail, scanning and filing documents, etc.
