Department Overview:
The University of Wisconsin-Madison College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) is an engine of scientific discovery, with researchers working across the spectrum of agricultural and life sciences. The college’s mission is to advance and share knowledge, discover solutions, and promote opportunities in food and agriculture, bioenergy, health, the environment, and human well-being. The Office of External Relations is responsible for the communications needs of CALS, including press releases, social media, student recruitment, marketing and promotions, alumni and stakeholder engagement, email newsletters, and publications like Grow magazine.

Qualifications:
Must be an enrolled undergraduate or graduate student Preferred candidates will have experience creating social media content and graphics (Canva, Adobe Express, etc). but willing to train the right person
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
Strong written and oral communication skills Strong organizational skills Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook) Strong work ethic with the ability to meet deadlines, work independently and creatively, and take direction Interest in graphic design and creative content creation, experience preferred but willing to train someone eager to learn
Position Summary/Job Duties:
The Marketing Assistant supports the Office of External Relations by managing social media channels, creating engaging digital and print content, and helping promote key events and programs. This role also assists with event coordination, ensuring successful planning and execution of college-wide activities. It’s an ideal opportunity for someone interested in communications or marketing who wants hands-on experience in content creation, copywriting, outreach, and brand engagement within a dynamic academic environment. The job duties are as follows: Create social media posts including copy, graphics and/or photos across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter/X Schedule social media posts following the editorial calendar Collect analytics for various channel performance (social media, email, events) and report on trends Create content including flyers, presentations, short videos, and graphics to promote various programs, events, and initiatives Manage Ag Hall’s lobby screen (schedule and graphics) Assist with event coordination tasks for various college level events

Ability to perform general office tasks, lift ~20 pounds
