Department Overview:
The mission of the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine Large Animal Surgery Service is to advance animal health through exceptional surgical care, innovative research, and comprehensive education. We are committed to compassionate, evidence-based treatment of large animals while training future veterinarians and advancing the field of large animal surgery through collaboration, integrity, and service.

Training may start as soon as possible, but a majority of the training will be over summer break.

Minimum: 0 Maximum: 40
Schedule:
Up to 40 hours per week through the summer for training, on-call shifts post training. Compensation in the form of stand-by hours is given for all hours on-call. Training schedule is Monday-Friday approximately 8am-5pm. Post training will include approximately 10 on-call shifts a month.

Qualifications:
While no previous animal handling experience is required, willingness to learn how to safely handle a variety of animals is a must. Experience or knowledge about sterile fields is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
Organization, attention to detail, and communication skills are extremely valuable traits. Must work well in a fast pace team environment.
Position Summary/Job Duties:
• Set up for surgeries and procedures • Open sterile instruments for surgeons • Document supplies used for charge purposes • Restock post procedure/surgery • Reprocess instruments in Central Supply • Clean procedure room/operating room post procedure/surgery • Hold or restrain animals as needed
Physical Demands:
Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. Must be able to bend, kneel, squat, etc. for some procedures.
