Department Overview:

The A²I Lab is part of the Division Otology and Neurotology in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. We study novel ways of hearing care across the spectrum from basic science and hearing implant development to diagnostics and applied clinical science.

Schedule:

Work Hours are mostly flexible, suggested time between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm with a negotiable core.
Work Schedule is flexible within the confines of the lab's projects. A core duty includes preparatory work that is required weekly by noon on Tuesdays.

Qualifications:

Successful applicants must be enrolled full time at the UW as undergraduate students with at least one year until graduation at the time of position start. Ideally, candidates have multiple 3+ hour blocks available during the week between 8 am and 5 pm. Strong candidates show interest in bioengineering and primary cell culture and are looking for a long-term commitment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

No experience is required as training on the job will be provided. Ideal candidates study a biology or bioengineering-adjacent discipline with some practical coursework.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The successful applicant will support all members of the lab and all projects. Duties will start with a narrow scope and low responsibility and can be expanded.
Core duties include preparation of sterile and non-sterile solutions and cell culture medium, cleaning and sterilizing microsurgery tools and glassware, and assisting with embryonic harvest. Potential further duties include basic cell culture maintenance, animal husbandry (rodents), immunohistochemistry and immunocytochemistry, basic fluorescence microscopy imaging. Candidates with fitting expertise may assist with Matlab and Python programming, CAD 3D modeling, electrical implant fabrication, and 3D printing.

Physical Demands:

Lifting, reaching, working sitting down at a biosafety cabinet for up to 2h at a time.
