Department Overview:

The Wisconsin Historical Society connects people to the past by collecting, preserving, and sharing stories. The Division of Library, Archives and Museum collections acquires, preserves and provides access to documentary and artifactual evidence about the history of Wisconsin, the United States, and Canada.

- Ability to work effectively as a member of a functional team
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both in writing and verbally, with supervisors, colleagues, and state agency records staff;
- Ability to prioritize and multitask

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Library shelvers help ensure the Library collections and stack levels are orderly, organized, and well-maintained. Job duties include:

1. Shelving of library materials: shelve Library materials and maintain order in assigned sections of Library stacks
2. Assist with stacks maintenance
a. Do walkthroughs of stack levels to make sure everything is in order
b. Shelf-read assigned sections of Library stacks and correct shelving errors
c. Shift collections as needed to utilize space
d. Report building issues to supervisor if necessary
e. Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands:

- Lifting up to 40 pounds and/or pushing a wheeled cart of print collections
- Reaching up to upper shelves and bending/crouching down to shelves near the floor
- Part of a Library collection is only accessible by stairs
