Schedule:

We are looking for one to three individuals that can work during the following shifts. Please mark the days and times that you are able to cover for the spring 2026 semester. Students will regularly work ten to fifteen hours per week.

Students will generally work 10-15 hours per week. Work schedules will be developed around class schedules and department coverage needs.

For the Fall 2026 semester, the department is specifically seeking applicants who are available Tuesday mornings and Thursdays between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Enrolled in UW-Madison with a good academic standing.

Not open to students in the LSC major or graduate programs.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Attention to detail, independent problem solving, reliable, good communicator. A customer-service mindset and professional demeanor. Dependability, accountability, and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Comfort learning and using new technology.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The Front Desk and Communications Assistant serves as one of the first points of contact for students, faculty, staff, and visitors while providing administrative and communications support to the department.
Duties include answering phones and emails, checking out audio/visual equipment and keys to the radio labs, mailing packages, filing, tidying public spaces, and completing other duties as assigned.
The student employee will work closely with LSC's Graduate Communications Assistant to support departmental communications projects, including social media engagement, digital content, organizing communications files, and maintaining communications databases, including Comms PA files and the Eloqua database.
The student employee will also assist with event planning for the department's scholarship reception and spring graduation ceremony.
This position requires professionalism, dependability, and accountability because the student employee will be entrusted with departmental equipment, building-access resources, and representing the department at the front desk.
During slower periods, students may have opportunities to work on coursework once departmental responsibilities have been completed.
