Study Summary: Measuring Body Motion During Manual Lifting
What is this study about?
We want to study the best ways to measure body movements while lifting objects.

To do this, we will study people while they lift objects from one location to another while standing.

What will happen during the study?
You will be asked to:
• Wear sensors that track your location while moving
• Be video recorded while performing simple lifting tasks
• Lift small light weight objects from different locations and transfer them to another location while standing
• Put on tight clothing so your body motions are visible.
Eligibility
You are eligible to participate if you indicate that you can repeatedly lift a tote pan weighing 3 pounds from various heights and distances.
How much time will I spend on the study?
• Each experiment has one study visit that will take up to two hours.
Could taking part in the study help me?
You will not benefit from participating in this study. This study may benefit others in our understanding of how to make jobs safer for workers who lift objects.

What are the main risks of taking part in the study?

All procedures have possible risks. The risks of this study are low, and we will watch for any problems during the procedure so that we can stop if necessary.

For this study, the main risks to know about are:
• Falling, due to using unfamiliar devices
• Sore muscles and joints, and other side effects of exercise
• Skin irritation from the devices rubbing the skin

Taking part in research is voluntary. You can choose not to be in this study or stop at any time.
If you decide not participate, there will be no penalty to you.
