Department Overview:

Madison Reading Project is a small, but expanding, non-profit which serves the city of Madison and surrounding Dane County. Our mission is to connect our community with free books and literacy resources that ignite a love for reading and affirm and reflect the diversity of young readers.

Monday-Friday 10am-3pm and weeknights and weekends as needed

$16.00-$18.00

Qualifications:

-Strong commitment to the mission of MRP
-Reliable transportation and a valid WI driver's license
-Ability to drive a cargo van
-Flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

-Enthusiasm for working with children
-Knowledge of literacy learning and reading practices for children birth-fifth grade
-Strong written and verbal communication skills
-Experience using Google Suites

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The Program Assistant supports work in the book center, community events, our Big Red Reading Bus and implements programming with MRP partners.
-Maintaining organization at MRP's book center
-Driving the Big Red Reading Bus and helping children select books
-Supporting volunteers at community events
-Projects as assigned by the Program and Services Director
-Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands:

Work is performed in a combination of environments ranging from a standard office environment to community site.
This will require walking, bending, climbing stairs and getting in and out of the MRP van etc. Must be able to drive a vehicle safely in the community. Must be able to safely use computer equipment for extended periods of time. Requ sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate computer keyboard or other office equipment. Requires visual acuity to read and write words and numbers. Requires speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate in person, publicly or over the phone. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted on an occasional basis but at those times the lifting could be repetitive. Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, crouch, crawl, sit, twist, turn. noise level varies from quiet to loud.
