Department Overview:

This internship is offered in partnership with SuccessWorks at the College of Letters and Science through the Community Impact Internship Program.

Wisconsin People & Ideas is a quarterly magazine that features thoughtful stories about the people and culture of Wisconsin, original creative writing and artwork, and informative articles about homegrown innovation. The magazine also hosts annual fiction and poetry contests for Wisconsin writers. The magazine is a publication of the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts & Letters. Founded in 1870 to gather, share, and act upon knowledge for the betterment of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Academy is a nonprofit membership organization with a history of service to the citizens of our state.

Schedule:

Set with supervisor; 10 hours per week.
75% Remote, 25% In-Person at 1922 University Ave, Madison, WI 53726.

Qualifications:

Applicants must be UW-Madison undergraduate students.

**To receive a stipend or work study funding, students must be enrolled in the College of Letters and Science.**

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Minimum Skills/Abilities:

● Experience or demonstrated interest in writing, editing, publishing, and marketing
● Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
● Detail-oriented, creative, organized, and self-motivated
● Able to work independently and collaboratively
● Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
● Able to dedicate 10 hours per week to the internship, including in-person meetings (schedule is flexible)

Position Summary/Job Duties:

● Connect with current and potential advertisers to increase magazine advertising
● Help maintain and develop contributor relationships
● Fact-check articles
● Assist with the Academy’s Fiction & Poetry Contests and Courses
● Write, copyedit, and proofread social media content promoting the magazine

Work Study interns must complete the following additional requirements:
• One 30-minute career advising appointment with a SuccessWorks Career Advisor
• Participation in one SuccessWorks Careers Event (remote or in-person)
• Feedback survey/short interview about their internship experience
