Department Overview:

The Chazen Museum of Art houses 24,000 art objects between its two buildings and approximate 163,000 square footage. Maintaining these facilities for visitor and artwork safety is an evolving, strategic, and thoughtful workload. Join the team in this behind-the-scenes position by working directly with the Chazen’s Facilities Coordinator to ensure our spaces are accessible, welcoming, and functioning at their highest capacity.

Schedule:

5-10 hours per week, flexible days (Monday-Friday)

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

$15.00

Qualifications:

• Education or previous experience working with building mechanical systems, daily building
operations, or logistical problem-solving
• 1-2+ years of customer service experience
• Project management experience a plus
• Minimum sophomore or junior in standing with intent to remain in Madison through
summer and 2024/2025 school year

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel
• Organizational and time management skills
• Oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently and with a team

Position Summary/Job Duties:

• Perform building checks to observe routine maintenance needs and visitor experience;
report observations to supervisor or museum leadership staff
• Enforce museum policies to ensure smooth daily operations in both museum buildings
• Diagnose building mechanical issues, troubleshoot, and/or submit work orders for repair
• Collect environmental data for review and take corrective action as necessary for artwork
safety
• Engage with all building users including museum staff, custodial services, skilled trades,
security/emergency personnel, public visitors, and outside vendors
• Other duties as assigned
• Expect 5-10 hours per week with flexible schedule (Monday-Friday)
• Work is expected to be performed in person and on site

Physical Demands:

• Travel throughout both buildings,
mechanical spaces, and occasional
tight quarters
• Bending, crouching, and lifting
expected
