Department Overview:

Due to the pandemic, our team is in short supply so we are looking to hire immediately!

We are a group of pre-health students assisting a woman with muscular dystrophy living in downtown Madison with her everyday needs.  With a full support team, she is able to participate in many jobs and opportunities and live her best life.

Responsibilities include getting her in and out of bed, dressing, using the bathroom, preparing meals, and giving her cat love, attention, and food. More details are forthcoming in an interview.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Have some fun this semester (and beyond) with this great part-time/second job! We are looking for physically strong, fun, hardworking, and motivated people to work as a personal care attendant in downtown Madison for a Dynamic, Professional woman named Karen. This is an in-home personal care job for a woman with Muscular Dystrophy.

A message from Karen:

"We will run errands together, spend some time out and about, tidy up the apartment, have meals, and get out of the house! I am taking extra percautions due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and want you to feel safe and cared for during this difficult time as well. Looking for an outgoing student employee with flexible availability, strong organizational skills, a vaild driver's license, and an appreciation for the little pockets of joy life brings.

Additionally, the personal care aspect of the job requires that you be able to take detailed verbal directions and is physically and mentally demanding. I will train you on the job so all you need to have is an open mind and a passionate drive for learning!"


Our client, Karen, has Personal Care help daily by members of our team during four different shifts: morning, noon, evening, and night.

  • Morning: 6AM (2.5-3 hours)
    • Tasks: bathing, dressing, bathroom, grooming, breakfast
  • Noon (1-1.5 hours)
    • Tasks: lunch, bathroom
  • Evening (1-1.5 hours)
    • Tasks: dinner, bathroom
  • Night: 10PM or later if preferred (2.5-3 hours)
    • Tasks: dressing, bathroom, grooming, getting to bed

ALL TIMES ARE FLEXIBLE to accommodate both the worker and the client! Alternating morning and nights on the weekends are currently available (Friday, Saturday, and Sundays). This job is available to continue into the Summer and beyond! Karen is frequently a night owl and an early bird, so if you are too, this is a great match!

Physical Demands

Be physically able and open to learning how to operate a hoyer lift or do a physical bear-hug lift transfer.
