ABOUT LEADERS IGNITING TRANSFORMATION:

Leaders Igniting Transformation (LIT) is a youth of color-led independent nonprofit. Founded in 2017, LIT builds leadership skills through engaging in values-based issue and electoral organizing, direct action, and advocacy for public policy. We organize young people in UW-system campuses communities to build independent political power for social, racial and economic justice.

Traditional Fellow - 12 hours 

1.5 hours - Weekly Statewide Trainings (Virtual)

1 hour - Check-in w/ College Organizer (Virtual/In-Person)

30 mins - End of the Week (EOW) Check-in w/ College Organizer (Virtual/In-Person)

2.5 hours - Chapter Building & Maintenance (In-Person)

• 1 hour: Chapter Meeting Prep & Follow up with Exec Board Members
• 1.5 hours: Facilitate Chapter Meetings 

3.5 hours - Member Recruitment 

• 2 hours: Weekly Tabling + Recruitment (In-Person) 
  • Collecting Pledge to Vote Cards PTVs
  • Class raps
  • Finding events to connect with people 
• 1.5 hour: 3 One-on-One Meetings per week (In-Person)

College Fellow

Leaders Igniting Transformation is seeking dynamic, inspiring part time College Fellows to support the development of LIT chapters on campuses, year round civic engagement of college students, and movement building through our various campaigns and issue focuses statewide across Wisconsin.

As a fellow within the College Department, you’ll be responsible for contributing to these various focus areas:

Chapter Building and Maintenance - 33%

Supporting your Campus Organizer in building and/or maintaining a strong LIT chapter through relational organizing with students, campus administrators, professional staff, and other allies on campus, in your local community, and throughout the state. 

• Leading + facilitating chapter meetings with members. 
• Working with members, campus F/S, and the college organizer to expand the chapter’s connection to community members and organizations aligned with our work.
• Delegating responsibilities to our paid members.
• Consistently engage in 1:1 meetings with new and current members.
• Planning and executing campus events for the purpose of outreach and increasing student awareness of LIT and our campus-specific goals/campaigns. 

Member Recruitment - 33%

Support in meeting assigned metrics and goals and building out the Leaders Igniting Transformation membership base on your campus.

• Tabling on campus twice a month, 
• Class/Raps: Schedule times to meet with classes and student organizations to present LIT and collect interested students information
• Meet with new interested students to get to know their interests and connect them with the work we are doing 
• Train members on how to effectively recruit new members. 
• Planning fun, creative events for the student body and collaborating with other student organizations. 

Campaigns + Civic Engagement - 33%

Move forward the campaigns (BROKE AF, Dare to Divest, Democracy Done Right, etc) of Leaders Igniting Transformation through relational organizing, issue research, power analysis, one on ones with other students and key campus stakeholders.

• Attend Student Government/Senate meetings to learn what they are doing, connect with student senators, and present our work. 
• Facilitate training to build members’ understanding of our campaigns as well as the tools and strategies used to carry out these campaigns.
• Create plans to meet with student government leaders, dean of students office, and the Chancellor’s office.
• Create direct action advocacy events to bring awareness to our work and invite people to join us. 
• Conduct campaign research relevant to your UW campus and LIT’s college department goals.

Timeline & Benefits

• Virtual Orientation: August 27th - 28th, 2024 | 4:30-6:30pm (virtual)
• Program Length: August 27th - December 6th, 2024 (15 weeks)
• Time commitment: 12 hours/week
• Compensation: $17 hour
• Part time, non exempt

Key Qualifications & Experience: 

• Must commit to working 12 hours a week.
• Must be enrolled at a UW system school full time (UW-Eau Claire, UW-Green Bay, UW-La Crosse, UW-Madison, UW-Milwaukee, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Parkside, UW-Platteville, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Stout, or UW-Whitewater).
• Must have a commitment to building the leadership capacity of Black & Brown youth.
• Must have a commitment to learning and being in a community with a diverse staff from various racial & ethnic, gender, sexual, economic, and immigration status backgrounds.
• Must be willing to be deeply engaged with their campus community through outreach with other students, professional staff, and other organizations. 
• Must be willing to serve as a representative of LIT on their college campus.
• Must be willing to attend in-person events, tabling shifts, and meetings with safety protocols in place.
• Must have access to reliable Wifi and be able to attend virtual meetings.
