50% TA in Design Studies 240: Human-centered Design and Business summary: The Design Studies (DS) department in the School of Human Ecology has a 50% TA opening in DS 240 for Fall 2026.
DS 240: Design thinking is an iterative problem-solving process geared toward producing innovative solutions for complex and persistent problems in various fields and organizations. Its process, culture, and value system from both design and business point of views will be covered: Empathetic understanding of the end users, problem definition rooted in systems thinking, ideation with a strong emphasis on creativity, visualization and prototyping, testing rooted in a set of research methods, and finally, the importance of iteration in bringing about innovative solutions. The path from project to market will also be explored, with an understanding of how one might balance desirability, feasibility and viability.
The lecture for this course is held on Monday/Wednesday from 11:00-11:50am. Labs will be held on Wednesday 3:30-7:35pm, Thursday 3:30-7:35, and Friday 11am-3:05pm. TA’s must attend lectures and 3 lab sections each week.

HDFS 425: Research Methods in Human Development & Family Studies-Basics of research design used in studying family studies and individual development over the life course. Quantitative and qualitative research designs, participatory action research, and evaluation research, how research informs intervention and prevention programs.
The 50% TA will support two instructors across two sections of HDFS 425 for Fall 2026. The lectures are Monday/Wednesday from 2:30-3:45pm and Tuesday/Thursday from 9:30-10:45am.
This position may be eligible to continue in Spring 2027 based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding.
