UW Student Assistant
May 25 2026
Student Assistants (GA/PA/TA/RA/Fellowship) summary: Professor Branchaw’s Science Education research team in the Kinesiology Department is seeking two undergraduate students to participate in a structured summer NSF-funded research experience to investigate how undergraduate students learn to think mechanistically in physiology. The project focuses on how students develop principle-based reasoning about core physiological concepts such as flux and mass balance, and how classroom experiences can support deeper scientific understanding. This research explores how students learn to reason through complex biological systems, connect principles to real physiological processes, and refine their thinking over time.
This in-person research experience will support students interested in developing science education research skills. Students will receive mentorship, engage in collaborative research meetings, and learn how theory informs data analysis and interpretation in education research.
