We have worked with many students in many different degrees (Nursing, SLP, OT, PT, Engineering, Dietetics, Pre-Med...). We still speak and interact with all of them since they have graduated! Position Summary/Job Duties:
We Could Use Your Help This Summer!!!
We are looking for someone special to assist us with our daughter Laurel (LuLu) this summer with the ability to extend into the next school year if desired. We are looking to fill day or evening shifts 7 days a week. The hours are flexible as we have other students assisting as part of her team. Laurel is 16 years old and was diagnosed with Rett syndrome 14 years ago. Rett syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that primarily affects girls. Unfortunately, it has stripped Laurel of her ability to walk, talk, or have purposeful use of her hands. We have been working with exceptional UW undergrad and grad students from OT, PT, Nursing, Speech, and even Engineering for the past 11 years, and they have become part of our family! In addition, we regularly work with the Waisman Center as part of their LEND family mentor program.
Laurel needs assistance with daily living activities such as feeding, bathing, and toileting. She loves to listen to music (Taylor Swift/Gracie Abrams/Olivia Rodrigo current favs), and she likes to run errands and go for walks. This summer, we are looking for individuals during the day and/or evening. Day shifts would start around 8:30 until 4, and evening shifts would be from 4-8. We also have weekend shifts available from around 9 AM to 4 PM or evenings on the weekend from 4 PM to 8 PM. We are flexible with start and stop times and around exams and vacations. We currently have other UW students working with us, but we are looking to add more to the team!
We also have one other daughter, who is 18, and having assistance with Laurel greatly enhances our ability to spend time with her. We have had a legacy of amazing students from the UW, and would love to add you to the team!
Summer bonus on top of base pay available.
Meals, laundry, travel included. Hours count as direct care hours for those who need them. Excellent refrences success to date for everyone who has worked with us!
Qualifications:
Looking for unique, fun, and flexible team members willing to join our family. Must be able to ride the ups and downs of Laurel, be creative in finding fun things to do, be proficient in modern music (Taylor Swift, Gracie Abrams, Olivia Rodrigo current favs), 16 year old fashion, and just general craziness.
Physical Demands
Enjoy walks, dancing, singing, some light lifting.
