Department Overview:
The Wisconsin Union, often referred to as "the heart and soul" of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has enhanced the lives of members and visitors since it was founded in 1907. Since 1928, when the doors to Memorial Union opened, the Wisconsin Union has served as the living room of the UW-Madison campus. The Union connects students, faculty, staff, members, and visitors through shared cultural, social, and recreational events and experiences.

Schedule:
Camp Assistants will be schedule to work shifts between the hours of 7:00 AM-6:00 PM, M-F during camp weeks July 14-Aug 1.
Minimum of 15-20 hours per week.
Unit Hours - Summer Camp program hours are 7:30 AM-5:30 PM, M-F.
Unit Location - Wisconsin Union Summer camp will take place at both Union South and Memorial Union as well as adjacent outdoor areas.
Salary/Wage Range:
Hourly $15.00 to $15.00

Position Summary/Job Duties:
Maintain a safe space for campers, including assisting with careful supervision of campers and communicating any safety concerns to supervisors
Serve as a role model for campers
Actively participate with campers in camp activities and conversation
Sustain a positive environment at camp, incorporating enthusiasm into all activities
Help Organize and lead small and large group activities
Appropriately respond to and mitigate any camper behavioral issues
Communicate and interact with youth and adult participants
Keep track of time throughout the program
Set up and take down activity space, assist with camp check-in/check-out
Participate in onboarding and youth safety training
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
A desire to work with young children
Communicate effectively with people of all ages
May be required to participate in Adult & Pediatric CPR/AED/FA Certification or ability to obtain prior to first day of camp
Must be able to attend all training dates July 8-11and available during the entire camp session (July 14- August 1)
Excellent communication skills across demographics
Preferred applicants will have experience in youth activities and summer camps AND/OR childcare experience.
Must be able to project voice when giving instructions to the group in large, busy spaces with or without accommodations
Ability to navigate campus with or without accommodations
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check
Student Status
To be eligible for the Wisconsin Union positions, you must be currently enrolled in a college, university, or highschool (at least 16). It is not permissible to hire a person as a student hourly employee if they are taking credits merely to be eligible for student hourly employment. Review UW Policy 5003- Student Hourly Employment for more information. If school is in break period (summer, spring, winter), applicants must intend to enroll in courses the following semester.
