Department Overview:

The Wisconsin Union, often referred to as "the heart and soul" of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has enhanced the lives of members and visitors since it was founded in 1907. Since 1928, when the doors to Memorial Union opened, the Wisconsin Union has served as the living room of the UW-Madison campus. The Union connects students, faculty, staff, members and visitors through shared cultural, social and recreational events and experiences.

Employee schedule will vary depending on student availability and event calendar. Shifts will range from early morning to mid/late evening. Events are scheduled 7 days a week.

Minimum Hour Expectation- A minimum of 10 hours a week is expected, with some exceptions. Weeks will vary in event load.

Unit Hours- Events are scheduled 7 days a week from early morning to mid/late evening.

Unit Location- University of Wisconsin: Pyle Center, 702 Langdon St, Madison, WI 53706

Salary/Wage Range:

Hourly $16.00 to $16.00

Position Summary/Job Duties:

  • Set up/ break down, connect and adjust audio visual equipment/ software in various spaces for events, academic instruction, or meetings according to established requirements and requests.
  • Performs basic and routine equipment checks to ensure proper functionality.
  • Provide technical support to clients.
  • Follow equipment storage guidelines by maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
  • Ability to work in both team and self-guided settings.

Qualifications:

  • Flexible schedule, ability to work nights/ weekends (required)
  • Experience with basic AV technology, speakers, microphones, computers and cameras (preferred)

  • Customer/ guest services and event experience (preferred)

  • This position requires standing, lifting (up to 50lbs), bending, crouching, working on ladders, hand dexterity and other similar physical activities.
  • Less experienced candidates will be considered. An interest in learning AV technology and event production is important and recognized.

 

Student Status

To be eligible for the Wisconsin Union positions, you must be currently enrolled in a college, university, or highschool (at least 16). It is not permissible to hire a person as a student hourly employee if they are taking credits merely to be eligible for student hourly employment. Review UW Policy 5003- Student Hourly Employment for more information. If school is in break period (summer, spring, winter), applicants must intend to enroll in courses the following semester. Physical Demands

Lifting of 50-75 pound equipment regularly.
