Position Summary/Job Duties:

We're looking for someone to support our 12-year-old daughter at camp this summer (June 23 - Aug 1, M-F) and maybe add one night of childcare per week, roughly 5:00-9:00 p.m. (but flexible). We'd love to have you continue to hang out with Juni in August, 15-30 hours a week, depending on your availability, and then one night per week during the school year, if it works with your schedule.

Our daughter loves the outdoors and going to Camp Shalom NoBo, but can get over-stimulated and stressed by large group activities, and often needs extra time for transitioning and breaks during the day to help her remain regulated and calm. Candidates can expect to play and participate with our daughter in camp adventures, help her manage her social interactions with peers, and support her when she is stressed and overwhelmed (for which we are happy to provide lots of training on which strategies work best).

Outside of camp, our daughter loves drawing, painting, and crafts of all kinds, but could use supervision and gentle reminders to put lids back on supplies and clean-up when done. Same goes for meals/snacks, which she also enjoys making. We’re members of the Hill Farms Swim Club, so you’re welcome to take her there or to Rennebohm Park (both 2 blocks away). Board games, movie nights, and blanket forts are also favorite activities. She’s full of ideas, you’d mostly just come along for the adventure to keep things as safe and tidy as possible.

Qualifications:

We're not perfect and don't expect you to be. What we do expect you to be is kind, patient, and reliable. Our daughter is on the autism spectrum and can be a little socially awkward at times, so a sense of humor is helpful. If you will be in Madison beyond this summer, we'd love to give you regular work during the school year as well (anything from 4 to 10 hours per week).

Application Instructions:

Reach out by email weidnersinmadison@gmail.com to tell us why you'd be a good fit. Please also note how you'd prefer to be contacted, so we can set up a time to have you over to meet the family.
