Department Overview:

The Wisconsin Union, often referred to as "the heart and soul" of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has enhanced the lives of members and visitors since it was founded in 1907. Since 1928, when the doors to Memorial Union opened, the Wisconsin Union has served as the living room of the UW-Madison campus. The Union connects students, faculty, staff, members and visitors through shared cultural, social and recreational events and experiences.

    During the summer, this position can work up to 15-20 hours per week. During the school year, this position requires a minimum of 7-10 hours per week.

  • Unit Hours

    The marketing office is open 8 AM - 5 PM, Monday-Friday.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The Wisconsin Union seeks an energetic, creative, flexible and reliable student with an interest in arts/theater marketing and a desire for hands-on learning. As a marketing intern, you will work closely with a cross-departmental team to generate and implement marketing strategies for Wisconsin Union clients, including the Wisconsin Union Theater and Wheelhouse Studios.  

Job duties:       

  • Write copy for social media, advertisements, emails, and website/blog 
  • Manage print and digital display schedules
  • Update website content
  • Create and amend graphic design orders
  • Assist with creating and implementing marketing strategy and initiatives
  • Design e-newsletters and promotional emails, using Eloqua and, possibly, other content management systems
  • Act as liaison to student clients

Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as knowledge and interest in marketing and storytelling with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent customer service, judgment/problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Comfortable interpreting reports and providing analysis
  • Ability to think and work independently
  • A strong interest in all genres of music/theater (classical, jazz, global music, dance) is preferred.

 

Preferred candidates majoring in music, theater, strategic communications, journalism, communication arts, marketing, or a related field with a strong interest in all genres of music/theater (classical, jazz, international music, dance)

Student Status

To be eligible for the Wisconsin Union positions, you must be currently enrolled in a college, university, or highschool (at least 16). It is not permissible to hire a person as a student hourly employee if they are taking credits merely to be eligible for student hourly employment. Review UW Policy 5003- Student Hourly Employment for more information. If school is in break period (summer, spring, winter), applicants must intend to enroll in courses the following semester.
