Position Summary/Job Duties:

Hello and thanks for your interest in being a caregiver!

Are you looking to build your resume? I am a UW-Madison female undergraduate student who uses a wheelchair and I am seeking the assistance of a dependable and friendly female who is interested in healthcare and wellness to assist with personal care over the 2025-2026 academic year. I am super friendly and would love to work with you! This is a great opportunity to build a resume of experience for your career field!

My name is Leah and I’m 19 years old. I love hanging out with friends, being outside, listening to music, getting coffee, and watching TV. I’m from Franklin, WI but will be attending UW-Madison in the Fall. I have a genetic disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy which makes me unable to walk and I have very weak muscles. Because of this, I need quite a bit of help throughout the day. This is where you come in! I’m in search of PCAs (Personal Care Attendants) to help with various daytime and nighttime care needs.

Listed below are some examples of tasks that will be needed and training will be provided:

  • Transfer to the toilet, shower chair, and/or bed, and transfer the student back into their wheelchair (I weigh 60 pounds).
  • Assist with dressing.

  • Assist with organization and accessibility of items (clothing, toiletries, food, school supplies, etc.)

  • Assist with meals (get food, cut/prepare meals, etc.)

  • Provide overnight care to include turning during the night.

  • Help clean/sanitize the dorm room and bathroom.

  • Help with laundry and changing bed sheets.

  • Assist with grocery shopping.

  • Assist with mail/package deliveries.

You will be hired by a fiscal agency that receives funds for my care through the state. The pay starts at $15 per hour.

Any combination of education (undergraduate/grad and/or nursing) and experience in personal care is helpful. This position is ideal for nursing students or students interested in nursing, physical/occupational therapy, or any other medical related field (however, this job can be great for anyone!)

Physical Demands

Must be able to lift 65 pounds
