About the Role:
Looking for a meaningful, low-stress part-time job where you can make a real difference? We’re seeking a kind, observant, and reliable student to spend time with an elderly woman (Jean) in a nursing home a few hours each week.

Jean has limited mobility and speech, but she understands what’s going on around her and responds warmly to gentle company. This is not a medical or CNA position—it’s simply about being present, attentive, and helping her stay comfortable.

What You’ll Do:

  • Sit with Jean and offer calm, friendly companionship.

  • Offer her water or light snacks.

  • Adjust blankets, lighting, or the door to make her comfortable.

  • Push the nurse call button if she seems uncomfortable or needs assistance.

  • Keep the room peaceful by turning off the TV or closing the door if it’s noisy.

  • Occasionally jot a short note about the visit (how she seemed, anything to pass along to staff or family).

Who You Are:

  • Compassionate, patient, and dependable.

  • Comfortable interacting with someone who communicates mostly through expressions and gestures (we’ll provide some tips and guidance).

  • A good observer and listener.

  • Respectful of privacy and professional boundaries.

Why This Might Be a Great Fit:

  • Flexible hours that work with a college schedule.

  • A meaningful opportunity for students in psychology, nursing, social work, pre-med, education, or communication—or anyone interested in understanding human connection and care.

  • You’ll gain real-world experience in empathy, observation, and relational communication.

Qualifications:

  • Reliable transportation to Middleton.

  • No healthcare training or certification required—orientation will be provided.

Physical Demands

This position involves minimal physical demands. The sitter will remain seated or standing in the resident’s room, offering light assistance such as adjusting blankets, handing water, or alerting staff if needed.
