Department Overview: | Dane Arts rests in the heart of county government and this office reports directly to the County Executive. Our mission is to support the arts, history, and culture of Dane County, Wisconsin, and work to show the economic, cultural, creative and community impact the arts generate throughout Dane County.
Dane Arts staff, along with Commission members, offer technical assistance, support, and advocacy countywide. Community service includes: initiating artistic projects, serving as an arts & culture resource hub, and inspiring meaningful connections between artists, presenters, and the community.
An example of our Impact:
- Honoring and celebrating the Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission's community service spanning nearly five (5) decades, 2027.
- Brilliant artwork created by over 400 local individual artists showcased in annual art posters and calendars, of which, hundreds of thousands are distributed near and far.
- Produce an Arts and Economic Prosperity study every five years, in partnership with Americans for the Arts
- Over 100 community murals and 50 storm drain designs created by Dane Arts Mural Arts (DAMA), a community arts effort which was started in 2014 out of this office and is now its own non- profit in partnership with Dane Arts.
- Since 2015, Dane Arts Buy Local Art Market (DABL) has been exhibiting and selling the work of local visual artists in a festive atmosphere with over $250,000 in art sold to date.
- Artists in Residence program started in 2020 at StartingBlock Madison
- Distributed $1.25 million in support to 400 artists in 2020 and 2021
- Initiated Forward Madison Soccer Game Day Posters in 2019 with over 75 artists paid for their creations
- Over 100 local citizens provided service as Commission members and Grant Advisory Panel Members.
- Arts, Culture & Local History Grants (2007-2025): over 2400 awards totaling over $14.2 million (public & private sources) leveraging nearly $76.2 million from other community sources.

Position Summary/Job Duties: | Dane County Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission (Dane Arts), located in the heart of County Government within the office of the County Executive, is looking for a creative and motivated Social Media Intern to support our marketing efforts in building and managing our online presence.
This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about the arts, social media, content creation, digital trends, who wants hands-on experience, and can work efficiently and effectively with minimal oversight in a government setting.
Responsibilities (in collaboration with current staff and with approval from the Dane Arts Director and/or Cultural Affairs Specialist)
- Assist in creating, scheduling, and publishing content across social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.)
- Help brainstorm and develop engaging content ideas (posts, stories, reels, short videos)
- Monitor social media channels and alert Dane Arts staff to comments and messages as needed
- Research trends, track social media performance and assist with basic analytics and reporting
- Support program announcements, promotions, and brand initiatives
- Maintain brand voice and visual consistency across platforms

Qualifications: | Requirements
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Art, Arts Administration, Communications, Marketing, Media, or a related field
- Strong interest in social media and digital marketing
- Familiarity with major social media platforms and trends
- Basic understanding of content creation tools (e.g., Canva, Squarespace, Adobe, YouTube or similar)
- Proficient written and visual communication skills
- Organized, reliable, and eager to learn
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
- Experience managing personal or brand social media accounts
- Basic photo or video editing skills
- Knowledge of social media analytics tools
