By providing high-quality private and group instruction to all ages, Monroe Street Arts Center is keeping the door open for a lifetime of creative expression and appreciation of the arts. MSAC is a welcoming, inclusive environment where we come together to learn, make, and share music and art. We cultivate a team of caring instructors who are first-rate artists and musicians, and create outlets for artistic expression through recitals, exhibits, and outreach opportunities.

3-10 hours weekly. Classes: Afterschool Program (S.T.E.A.M)- Fridays 3:00-4:30 starting January 5 and Monday Art Club- Mondays 1:15- 3:00 starting on February 2.

Position: Art Instructor (Children)

Reports to: Education Manager 

Schedule: Part-time, hourly position: 3-10 hours weekly. Classes: Afterschool Program (S.T.E.A.M)- Fridays 3:00-4:30 starting January 5 and Monday Art Club- Mondays 1:15- 3:00 starting on February 2.

• Instructors are allowed 2 and half to 5 paid hours per 10 week session for lesson planning.
• Freedom to create lesson plans at Monroe Street Arts Center or offsite.

Responsibilities: 

• Create and implement lesson plans. Lesson plans must be tailored to the age group and class topic and MSAC’s curriculum plan.
• Bring project examples each week.

• Encourage creativity and self-expression among participants by fostering a supportive and inclusive environment. Offer encouragement and positive reinforcement to boost confidence and enthusiasm.
• Set-Up and Clean-Up: Prepare art materials and set up the designated activity area before the start of each class.  Assist in cleaning up the area and storing materials after each class.
• Be flexible and adaptable in responding to the needs and preferences of students. Tailor art activities to accommodate varying skill levels, interests, and themes.
• Interact professionally and courteously with students and grown ups. Address any questions, concerns, or special requests in a prompt and courteous manner.

Requirements:

• Must have experience in working with ages 5-12 (K-5th) and managing a large group of children.
• A passion for art and working with young children.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Creativity and ability to think on your feet to adapt to the needs and interests of varying ages.
• Patience, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
• Previous experience working with children or in an art-related setting is a plus.
