Position Summary/Job Duties:
Join our Forage Legume Breeding Project at the USDA-ARS Dairy Forage Research Center on the west side of the UW-Madison campus. Our program needs several field interns for activities ranging from planting and evaluating plants to driving mowers and small tractors for agricultural field research and plant breeding projects. Experience not necessary. We'll train qualified people for all tasks. Start your plant science research career here!
Prefer available for 4-hour (or more) blocks between 7:30 am and 5:00 pm during off season. And prefer individuals available full time during the growing season/summer months. Individuals who are available part time for multiple 8-hour blocks between 7:30 am and 5:00 pm during the growing season will also be considered.
Duties include: Greenhouse activities (starting seed, potting, maintaining, and watering plants). Transplanting clover and alfalfa to the field. Safely using riding mowers and tractors for maintaining fields. Using hand tools and other measurement devices to evaluate plant traits. All duties require attention to detail, ability to perform repetitive plant evaluation tasks, and precise record keeping while getting dirty and/or sweaty! Warning! The internship is often dirty, physically demanding, and outdoors in all weather conditions.

Qualifications:
All duties require attention to detail, ability to perform monotonous task, and precise record keeping. Also, the internship is in an outdoor setting in all weather conditions. There will be worktime travel up to 3 hours from Madison. We'll provide necessary training if you can follow instructions and thrive outdoors and in a greenhouse environment.
Must be US citizen.
