Position Summary/Job Duties:

I’m a female 27-year-old disabled full-time wheelchair user and former UW-Madison sociology and gender & women’s studies major looking for in home supportive home care and personal care attendants. I have a number of complex medical conditions, including a primary neurologic condition, that severely restrict my mobility and access to the community. I’m looking for one to two people who can work M/W/F weekdays during the day 10 – 4 PM, but I can accommodate most days of the week/weekend, as long as there is support every other day (e.g. Tues/Thurs/Sat). This is a great position for students interesting in nursing, occupational/physical therapy, public health, gender and women’s studies, or other healthcare related majors. However, a nursing background is not required. I will provide all necessary training. Applicants must be reliable, communicative, and take COVID precautions, as I am immunocompromised. Wearing a mask around me is non-negotiable, as well as taking days off when sick. Start date around August 1st, with some flexibility. Prefer candidates who can make at least a six month commitment. I aim to pay all applicants the maximum allowed by Medicaid, which is around $18/hr

Job duties include:

  • groceries/meal prep/dishes
  • cleaning
  • occasional assistance with basic hygiene/grooming
  • donning/doffing compression stockings
  • medication pickup
  • laundry
  • help getting to/from medical appointments (gas mileage reimbursement provided)
  • assistance with passive range-of-motion exercises (training provided)
  • other tasks as needed

Qualifications:

  • applicants must have a car and valid driver’s license
  • must be able to drive (gas-mileage reimbursement provided for medical-related trips)
  • must be able to lift an approximately 35 lb manual wheelchair.
  • reliably able to communicate over text message
